Approximately 50,000 people starve to death every day. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) approximately 2 million people die every year from the effects of air pollution. Approximately 1 billion people lack adequate access to clean water for drinking, cooking, bathing and irrigation. How can those things be true in this day and age, when the human genome has been completely mapped, when the secrets of the Universe have been revealed down to the first few picoseconds of its existence, and with all the other wonderful things that we take for granted in our lives?
